The first versions of the mylist report and the newly revised review system has been implemented.
Mylist Report With this new mylist utility, users will be able to create a report of the following:
- Corrupted Files in Mylist - Episodes with Multiple Files in Mylist - Files with Low Quality in Mylist - Files without CRC hash in Mylist - Files without MD5 hash in Mylist - Files without SHA1 hash in Mylist - Files without ED2K hash in Mylist
Revised Review System The review system has been revised to help reviewers create better reviews and allow users to offer constructive critism or comments. In contrast to the old review system, the new review system does not allow anonymous voting anymore. Also, users are required to offer comments while submitting a rating for a review. Currently, there are 6 ratings:
- Excellent (10) - Good (8) - Above Average (6) - Meets Minimum Requirements (5) - Needs Some Revision (3) - Needs Complete Revision (1)
Furthermore, all past reviews have been allowed to retain their old votes, but the old `yes` vote has been counted as an 8 and `no` has been counted as a 3.
As always, please report any bugs or comments at http://www.anidb.net/forum/ |

Well,
as you all probably noticed we had some software problems again. AniDB is back up for now, but will probably be down for short durations today and this WE due to some software updates.
Btw. the AniDB forum is hosted on a different server. So if you can`t connect to AniDB you might want to check the AniDB forum @ http://www.anidb.net/forum/ for additional information. It might be a good idea to bookmark that page :o)

we`re very sorry for the unplanned downtime. due to a software problem the server needed to be rebooted and no one was around to do it x_X
we`re planning to prevent such problems in the future and will add some additional safety mechanisms soon.

| Browser Problems / GZip Compression |
| 29.05.04 03:11 by exp
|
since 21.05.2004 AniDB enforces gzip compression of all text content. there are many old (i.e. netscape 4) and broken (lots of IEs) browsers out there which can`t handle this correctly. it might also affect you indirectly if you`re using a proxy server which is not gzip compatible.
should you experience any problems loading the AniDB website take a look at the following forum posts: http://www.anidb.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1888 http://animereactor.ath.cx/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8180
Generally whenever you have issues with AniDB you should first try another browser. Recommendations:
BYe! EXP
PS: You should not use the microsoft internet explorer or any derivates (i.e. MyIE or stuff like that) for this site (or any other site on the internet, for security reasons). AniDB may work with MS IE but that`s untested and unsupported :P |

| Update on recent changes |
| 12.04.04 13:00 by wahaha
|
Since a lot of smaller or bigger changes took place in the last weeks, let me give you a short summary of those that may interest you most:
- Anime-titles will (over time) be changed to the Japanese titles in Romaji, other titles will be categorized (Kanji/English/Other).
This may lead to some confusion in your mylist, because some animes can "disappear" as they`re now listed under a different name you maybe never have heard of (e.g. "Gunbuster" -> "Top wo Nerae"). However, in your , you can change the title shown to English. You can now aswell keep Kanji-titles from showing up in the animelist with a Profile-option.
- The votes for animes have been split in two parts: Temporary and Permanent Votes.
The temporary votes are meant to be a valid way of voting for an ongoing show while the permanent votes are meant to be cast only after having watched an anime. None of the existing votes were deleted for this change. Some ongoing shows` votes have been transferred to temporary votes, but most are now counted as your permanent vote.
- You can now vote for individual episodes
This is meant to judge how you liked that particular episode, not to rate the file you watched. You can cast your vote by clicking on the episode-number on the anime-page or by using the "!voteep"-command in #anidb on irc.chatsociety.net
- An overview for both temporary/permanent votes and the individual episodes` votes can be seen by clicking on the [graph]-link (sample for "100 Stories") on the anime`s page right next to the current rating.
Just as a reminder: Since a while, you can also rate the individual groups` efforts in the "Group Info"-table right below the anime`s description and add comments.
- Some files will automatically be classified as "deprecated" and are shown in grey.
Files with a very low quality, corrupted files or those for which a v2 exists are among them - basically all those files you wouldn`t want to pay attention to anyway. In your profile, you can enable "Hide deprecated files". This will hide most deprecated files, except those in your mylist or with more than 50 users or if those that are the only file for an episode.
- Certain Awards for animes have been added.
Currently there are two awards shown, one is the automatically generated "AniDB Top 10", the other one are the AnimeReactor Community Awards 2003. In case you missed any of the chosen animes, you might want to give it a second try ;)
- You can now easily compare your mylist with another one
So that you can quickly find animes you have in common, or animes only one of you has - or just to compare your votes on shows both of you watched completely. You can reach this feature by going to the other person`s mylist (for example through the userlist) and using the "compare mylists"-link on the right.
- Anime Hint now has more options, so that you can now let it explicitly suggest only those animes you have in your mylist (if you look for something good to watch right now), or only those you have not in your list (if you look for something new to get).
Note that Anime Hint only works if you have voted for at least 30 animes.
As always, feedback, comments, suggestions and bug-reports can be posted in the AniDB Forum [you can post there without having to sign up]. |

| DB Maintenance |
| 08.04.04 09:19 by exp

You might have experienced a slowdown and mylist issues in the last few hours. These were caused by a DB maintenance which was needed. Everything might work again now :o)
*update* there was a second database maintenance which made anidb unavailable for +4h today. sorry about that. i hope that we won`t be seeing any more of these updates for some time now.

The AniDB Client AoM is making great progress.
You can get it at: http://www.anidb.net/client/
A short word on AniDB Clients for all those of you who hear it the first time: On top of the webinterface and the irc bots AniDB also offers a direct TCP interface for communications with stand alone programms. AniDB-O-Matic is a windows AniDB Client which allows you to auto add all files on your harddisk to your mylist, browse AniDB info while offline, ... It`s certainly worth a look. Please note that this is still Alpha/Beta software.

| New CREQ System |

|
Due to a change to a new CREQ system a lot of old creqs which were already revoked or otherwise handled in the past have reappeared and were denied. Therefore you might find a lot of denied creqs on your creq page, just ignore them. We have also reset the counters for denied creqs for all users.
We might have lost some legitimate creqs so feel free to re-request such creqs.
Please also keep your eyes open, we`ve probably introduced many new random features. So if you notice any bugs please report them in the anidb bugreport forum.

for technical reasons AniDB will no longer support all-numeric usernames.
all users with such names and without mylist entries have been deleted. those users should just reregister with a new name.
all users with such names and mylist entries have been notified. please check your anidb messages.

| MyWishList |
| 23.08.03 12:53 by exp
|
A wishlist has now been implemented. You can use it to keep track of animes you still want to get or animes you plan to watch soon. It`s listed as mywishlist on the myplace page.
I`ve also changed some minor things on the mylist page. You can now see the state of your files directly on the anime level if all files have the same state. And specials are now counted seperatly and will no longer have any side effects on the complete/completely watched states of animes.

| Anime Planet recommendations |
| 17.08.03 09:34 by exp
|
From now on you will find links to recommendations of similar animes by Anime Planet on many anime info pages on AniDB. Their recommendation system is based on user recommendations of similar animes you might like if you liked a certain anime. You should give it a try. The linking still needs some tweaking so if you don`t end up on the page for the anime you were looking for just use the search option to get there ;)

| AniDB Hint |
| 09.08.03 10:49 by gambit
|
AniDB Hint For everyone who hasn`t noticed it before, AniDB hint has 2 sort of hints nowadays. The old one was okay, but was too lenient recommending anime. The new hint-system is more strict, and that makes the hints/suggestions will fit your taste better.
Max. Lame files allowed EXP[BUSY] - btw. limit of lame files per user is now active Remember that you are supposed to add edonkey links, when adding files to AniDB. When some people add all sort of files without links, it`s not useful to any of us. So we decided to put a limit to it, and people can only have a limited number of files without link now.
How do you get lame files? To see which files are `lame`, which means files without any ed2k-link, you can go to MyPlace. There you can find a `MyDBentries`, which will show you specific information about files, groups and anime you have added to the aniDB yourself.
There are 2 ways to get `lame`, one is adding anime without a picture, or without a genre. The other way is to add files without an ed2k-link. You can also see this in the MyDBentries. |
